Beginning 2/4/2026 and for the rest of the season MST will be instituting a new pricing structure. Here is why:
No matter what side of the issues we are on, there is a lot of contention and division in our world today. One cannot be on Social Media, listen to the news or even watch a talk show without being inundated with the issues of the day and bombastic rhetoric from all sources. It is divisive, saddening and exhausting. We are all walking around shell shocked and we are all worried about what the next revelation will be.
At Midnight Sun Theatre, we believe art is a creative act with a far reaching ripple effect. Certainly the creators are affected, and audiences. But we also believe that these acts of creation even effect those who do not directly experience them, but who interact with others who have. Art impacts society even if one does not participate in the act itself.
Art is a healing action. By its very creative nature, it brings people together. Since it is collaborative, it is cooperative. It binds us all with a “oneness” born out of a mutual act of creation. It is the antithesis of everything we are experiencing in our world right now.
But, our current climate is slowly shutting the doors of arts experiences not only through drastic changes in how we fund artistic expression, but also in terms of financial barriers to entry. The cost of things like Licensing Rights, Lumber to build sets, Wages, and so much more has risen. Which means ticket prices have too.
And That’s Just Wrong! We need MORE art, not less!
We need healing. We need communion. Especially for those of us who do not have the disposable income to spend hundreds of dollars on theatre tickets.
So MST is going to try an experiment for the rest of our season. From now on, regular Adult tickets will be $35. And to thank our service men and women, doctors, nurses, fire and police departments, and all other First Responders, their tickets will remain at just $20. And for any Senior Citizens (Age 60+) and Any students of University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Pacific University, the Anchorage School District and children under age 5, tickets are free. Free for the rest of the season, for any performance, for any production.
We often call these “Pay-What-You-Can” tickets. So if you can only afford $1 for your child’s ticket, we hope you can spare it to help us continue to bring excellent theatre to Anchorage. To that end, we have placed “Donation” buttons in the check out area. You can select specific sums, or enter your own. But if you cannot afford it now, we get it. Come see the show on us!
Nobody should be denied access to art because they cannot afford a ticket. So we hope this is a step in the right direction. Join us for the rest of this season at Midnight Sun Theatre!
